Backbone is the 33rd studio album by the British rock band Status Quo, released in September 2019. It is their first album of new material since 2013’s Bula Quo!, and their first without original member Rick Parfitt, who died in 2016. The album features contributions from new guitarist Richie Malone and drummer Leon Cave, who joined the band in 2016 and 2013 respectively. Backbone showcases the band’s classic boogie rock style, with catchy riffs, energetic vocals and solid rhythms. The album received positive reviews from critics and fans, who praised the band’s resilience and vitality after more than five decades of making music. Backbone debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart, making it Status Quo’s 25th top ten album in their home country.

Backbone is considered to be a strong comeback album for Status Quo. It helped to re-establish the band as a relevant force in the rock music scene, and it set the stage for their successful subsequent tours.
