New Beginning is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, released in 1995. The album marked a comeback for Chapman, who had struggled with writer’s block and a lack of inspiration after her previous album, Matters of the Heart. New Beginning features a blend of folk, rock, blues and soul influences, and showcases Chapman’s powerful vocals and poetic lyrics. The album was a critical and commercial success, earning Chapman three Grammy nominations, including one for Album of the Year, and selling over six million copies worldwide. The lead single, “Give Me One Reason”, became Chapman’s biggest hit to date, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning a Grammy for Best Rock Song. Other notable tracks include the title track, “The Promise”, “Smoke and Ashes” and “I’m Ready”.

New Beginningis a solid album that showcases Tracy Chapman’s versatility as a singer and songwriter. The album is a mix of folk rock, blues rock, and even a bit of jazz. Chapman’s vocals are as powerful and passionate as ever, and the songwriting is top-notch. While the album may not be as politically charged as her earlier work, it is still an important album in her discography.
