Un métèque en liberté is a compilation album by Georges Moustaki, a French singer-songwriter of Greek origin. The album was released in 2000 by Polydor and Universal, and contains 45 remastered tracks from his previous albums. The title of the album means “A foreigner in freedom” and refers to one of his most famous songs, “Le Métèque”, which he wrote and performed in 1969. The song is a celebration of his identity as a Mediterranean immigrant in France, and a rejection of racism and discrimination. The album also includes other classics by Moustaki, such as “Ma Liberté”, “Joseph”, “Il Y Avait Un Jardin”, “La Mer M’A Donné” and “Les Eaux De Mars”. The album showcases Moustaki’s poetic and melodic style, influenced by folk, jazz, bossa nova and chanson française. It also features some collaborations with other artists, such as Nilda Fernandez, with whom he sings “Demande À Ton Ombre” on the live album Olympia 2000, recorded at the same year at the famous Parisian venue.
