Wasting Light is the seventh studio album by the American rock band Foo Fighters, released on April 12, 2011 by Roswell and RCA Records. The album was produced by Butch Vig, who also worked with the band’s frontman Dave Grohl on Nirvana’s Nevermind. Wasting Light was recorded in Grohl’s garage in Encino, California, using only analog equipment and old-fashioned techniques. The band wanted to capture the essence of their earlier work and avoid the artificiality of digital recording. The album features guest appearances by Bob Mould, Krist Novoselic, Jessy Greene, Rami Jaffee and Fee Waybill. Wasting Light marks the return of Pat Smear as an official member of the band since 1997. The album received critical acclaim and commercial success, topping the charts in several countries and winning four Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album. Wasting Light is considered one of the best albums of 2011 and one of the Foo Fighters’ finest works.
“We wanted to make a record that sounded like it was made in a garage, with four guys playing together. We wanted to make a record that was raw and energetic, and that’s what we did.”
